About
I am a photographer drawn to quiet forms of life, human rituals and details that are easily overlooked.
I started photographing in 2009 while studying molecular biology. Photography gradually became another way of exploring the question that also shaped my scientific work: what is life? My background in science influences how I look—closely, curiously and with an interest in patterns, processes and different scales of time.
During my PhD, I spent time in Swedish Lapland with documentary photographer Jeroen Toirkens. There I learned about visual storytelling and the patience required for slower documentary projects. Since then, I have photographed people in their everyday environments, scientific life, quiet outdoor moments and the traces left by time and natural processes.
My portfolio contains selected documentary projects. This journal is a more open sketchbook: a place for photographs, experiments, field notes and writing that do not need to belong to a finished body of work.
I am currently developing Grounded Compositions, a long-term photographic project and book about lichen, surfaces and overlooked forms of life.
Alongside photography, I work in biotechnology innovation. I am based in the Netherlands and have a particular connection with Scandinavia.
I am open to selected documentary projects and artistic collaborations. You can contact me through the contact form, email or via Instagram.

Jessie
